Dear Iron-Distance Championship Race Organisers,
TriEqual commends the WTC for introducing a rolling start for the age group race at the North American Ironman Championships in Texas on May 16th 2015. It is great to see measures that contribute to safety and also help to reduce drafting.
Along with the elevated attention and prize money, championship races draw large, competitive fields. We share your commitment to take reasonable measures to create a safe and fair race environment.
With this in mind, we have a concern regarding the professional women’s field. Based on research conducted by TriEqual director Thorsten Radde, we have concluded that to create a fair playing field for the professional women, a 10 minute gap following the professional men and a 25 minute gap to the age group athletes is required. Anything short of these gaps will compromise the race for the professional women. Professional women deserve the same fair and unobstructed course that is available to the professional men.
The undersigned recommend these changes for the upcoming Championship races in The Woodlands, Florianopolis, Roth and Frankfurt.
For more information please refer to Thorsten’s analysis here: http://www.trirating.com/triequal-fair-starts-protocol/ or email email@example.com.
